CAIRO: The Israeli army carried out a large-scale security search operation at the border fence with Lebanon on Sunday night after it said two people attempted to illegally cross into Israel.
The Israel Defense Forces said troops along the frontier “spotted the tracks of two people near the security fence on the Lebanon border,” the Times of Israel newspaper reported Monday.
According to the IDF, the “border breach did not appear to be terror-related.”
The report said flares were fired into the air and large numbers of troops were dispatched to the scene, along with helicopters, citing military and residents of the area.
“The incident will be investigated,” the IDF said.
