COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 16-year-old girl was killed and five other teens were wounded late Saturday night in a shooting during a gathering at a park, police say.

Olivia Kurtz was taken to Grant Hospital but died of her wounds, police say. The five other victims, two males and three females ranging in age from 16 to 19 years old, were taken to hospitals and are expected to recover from their wounds.

Police say the shooting occurred just before midnight during a private event at Bicentennial Park Amphitheater that had been promoted on social media. No arrests have been made.

WCMH Channel 4 reports the park was closed while the gathering was being held and that the organizers did not have a permit.

Daizhon Cox, who attended the gathering, tells WCMH that hundreds of people were at the park when the shooting occurred.

“Definitely a traumatic experience,” Cox tells WCMH. “You start seeing people dropping, you seeing people running, people hopping over the fence. You start hearing sirens. It was just a lot of stuff going on at one time, you know? In my head, I’m just like, ‘Oh my gosh, I don’t know what to do.”

Cox tells WCMH a person running next to him was wounded, so he stayed to help the victim. Police say two people suffered minor injuries during the panic after the shooting.
