Suspect charged in fatal shooting in Cleveland’s Old Brooklyn neighborhood

CLEVELAND, Ohio – An East Cleveland man is charged in a fatal shooting that happened Thursday in Cleveland’s Old Brooklyn neighborhood, police said.

Marcus Darling, 24, is charged with murder in the deadly shooting that happened on West 23rd Street, north of Broadview Road, according to court records and Cleveland police spokeswoman Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia.

Samuel Nelson Jr., 25, died in the shooting, according to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Officers arrived just after 6:45 p.m. Thursday and found a vehicle crashed into a porch. Nelson was found in the vehicle with a gunshot wound to his neck. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Witnesses told the officers they heard several gunshots before Nelson crashed the vehicle into the porch. They also told the officers they saw a man run away, police said.

Officers located and arrested a man, later identified as Darling, who matched the description of the man who ran away after the shooting. He was arrested
