A tornado with winds up to 80 mph briefly touched down Sunday afternoon in Mahoning County, causing minor damage but no injuries, according to the National Weather Service.
The tornado, which was an EF0, was on the ground for less than a 10th of a mile and lasted less than a minute, the Weather Service says. It touched down just east of Southern Park Mall in Boardman at about 5:44 p.m.
A small building in the strip mall was hit by the tornado, with winds tearing off an awning from the front of the building and a small portion of the roof. It also caused some minor tree damage and destroyed a small wooden fence before lifting from the ground.
An EF0 tornado has top winds off 65 to 85 mph and is considered weak on the Enhanced Fujita Scale. The strongest tornadoes are ranked EF5 and have top winds over 200 mph.
