Warrant issued for Cleveland man accused of killing teen for breaking into his car

CLEVELAND, Ohio – A warrant was issued for a man who is accused of shooting a 16-year-old who broke into his car in the Clark-Fulton neighborhood, police say.

John C. Ellis, 33 is charged with murder in the shooting that happened about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. He is not in custody.

Police received a report of gunfire in the 3200 block of West 38th Street. The reports said someone fired several shots into a home that was occupied by several children. When police arrived, they noticed bullet holes through the upper north siding of the house, police said.

Police later learned that the shooting victim and several others pulled up to the house in a dark colored Subaru hatchback. One of the passengers got out of the vehicle and tried to enter Ellis’ vehicle which was parked on the street, police said. Ellis watched what was happening from his home security system. He then yelled out of the window to confront the people, Ciaccia said.

Ellis exchanged words then gunfire with the people in the Subaru, and a bullet struck at least one of the people who was in the car with the victim.
