COLUMBUS, Ohio — An Ohio State University student died Thursday and two others were taken to a hospital because of suspected drug overdoses.
“Our community has suffered a tragic loss with the death of one of our students earlier today,” says a message to students from OSU President Kristina Johnson. “Another student is currently hospitalized in critical condition. A third student has, thankfully, been released from the hospital.
“We are grieving and extend our deepest sympathies to the students’ family and friends. Out of respect for them during this extremely difficult time, we are not sharing further personal information.”
The Columbus Dispatch reports emergency workers were called to a home on East Lane Avenue just before 11 p.m. Wednesday. Three students were taken to a hospital, two in critical condition and one in stable condition.
Authorities have not confirmed the student’s cause of death, but Johnson is urging students to be aware of fake Adderall drugs that are spiked with fentanyl. The drugs are being blamed for an increase in overdoses and hospitalizations.
