Cleveland, Ohio – Two women were killed in separate motor vehicle crashes just two hours a part on Friday, police said.
Khadijah M. Lawson, 28, of Cleveland Heights was killed about 1 a.m. on Kinsman Road, near East 93rd Street, according to police and the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Lawson drove a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu southbound on East 93rd Street. She failed to stop at a red traffic signal and collided with a 2021 Jeep Compass operated by a 33-year-old woman, police said.
The vehicles collided with a pole before they came to a stop, police said.
EMS transported Lawson to University Hospitals, where she was later pronounced dead, police said.
No other injuries from the crash were reported, according to police.
Less than two hours later, Sharde Stubbs, 25, of Cleveland was killed in a second accident, according to police and the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Police arrested a 23-year-old man in connection to the crash, said Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia, a spokeswoman for the Cleveland Division of Police.
Stubbs’ 2014 Hyundai Sonata was struck by a 2016 Honda Civic on East 79th Street, near Carnegie Avenue, at 2:55 a.m.. The 23-year-old had driven eastbound on Carnegie, police said.
The driver of the Civic failed to stop at a red-traffic light at East 79th Street and struck Stubbs’ Sonata, police said.
Stubbs’ vehicle went off the roadway and struck a pole. She was transferred to University Hospitals, where she was later pronounced dead.
There were three other passengers in the Civic. No other injuries were reported.
