Two males suspected of robbing a bank Thursday morning in Brecksville ended up leading police on a chase into the West Side of Cleveland, reportedly hitting other vehicles before ending in a crash involving a patrol car.
The two suspects tried to run after crashing with the patrol car and another vehicle near West 85th Street and Lorain Avenue near the Cudell neighborhood but were quickly caught by officers from the Garfield Heights and Independence police departments, according to Brecksville police.
Police say the chase started at about 11 a.m. after an off-duty Broadview Heights police officer saw the two suspects leaving a Dollar Bank on Chippewa Road after it reportedly had been robbed. The off-duty officer called in a description of the suspects’ vehicle and an Independence patrol car began chasing it north on Interstate 77 near Rockside Road.
The chase continued onto I-480 east, with officers from Garfield Heights joining the pursuit. The suspects’ vehicle exited at Transportation Boulevard, then got back onto I-480, heading west, then again went north on I-77. Police say the suspects’ vehicle struck other cars during the chase, but there were no reports of injuries.
The suspects were treated and released at MetroHealth Medical Center after the chase ended with the crash in Cleveland. Their names were not released, but they are being held in jail in North Royalton. Charges are pending, according to police.
Police from Cuyahoga Heights, Newburgh Heights, Broadview Heights and Cleveland all were involved in the pursuit.
