POLK COUNTY, Florida — A worker at a landfill was killed when a bulldozer crushed a porta potty while the man was inside, according to reports.
Aaron Henderson, 40, of Winter Haven, Florida, died in the incident Friday at the Polk County North Central Landfill, WTSP Channel 10 reports. Henderson was working as a spotter for drivers of large vehicles at the landfill, Fox 13 reports.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office tells WTSP that another worker was driving the bulldozer up an embankment in order to park it for the evening. The bulldozer’s blade was about 3 to 4 feet off the ground, blocking the driver’s view of the porta potty, a sheriff’s spokesperson said.
The driver began turning and “heard a loud noise,” WTSP reports. After realizing he had run over the porta potty, the driver ran back and found Henderson unresponsive inside, reports say.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating, but sheriff’s officials say it appears to be a “tragic industrial accident,” reports say.
Fox 13 reports Henderson was the father of three sons.
