A Cleveland-Cliffs worker at a steel mill in Southwest Ohio died Tuesday in an accident during “routine maintenance,” according to multiple reports.
The cincinnati Enquirer reports the company confirmed the accident in a statement released Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred at Middletown Works at the hot strip mill in the facility, the Enquirer reports.
“Cleveland-Cliffs expresses its deepest sympathies to the employee’s family and the Company will provide the necessary support to the family during this difficult time,” Cleveland-Cliffs spokesperson Patricia Persico said in a statement to Fox 19. The identity of the male worker has not been released.
Persico said the company will investigate the death with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
