CLEVELAND, Ohio — A corrections officer at a federal prison in Columbiana County has been accused of smuggling tobacco and cellphones into the facility and selling them to inmates.
Milton Williams, 27, of Austintown, is facing four federal charges for smuggling the items into the Federal Correctional Institute-Elkton from March 2020 to January 2021, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio.
Authorities say Williams and others smuggled the items to prisoners. Williams and the others were then paid by prisoners through an app on the phones, prosecutors say.
No other details were released Wednesday. The FBI and the Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General investigated the case.
