CLEVELAND, Ohio – A man has been arrested after he said he accidentally shot his mother while playing with a shotgun at their home on Wednesday, police said.
Sharon Foster, 57, of Cleveland was shot in the chest about 4:50 p.m. by her son 36-year-old at their home on West 46th Street near Train Avenue, according to police and the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Cleveland EMS and firefighters gave emergency aid to Foster when police arrived at the scene. EMS transported to Foster to MetroHealth, where she later died, police said.
The man, who was still at the home when police arrived, told officers he was playing with a shotgun and it went off, police said.
A family member who said they witnessed the incident told police that the son shot his mother “without any provocation,” the statement said.
Police did not release the shooter’s identity. It is unclear if the man has been charged with any crime as of Thursday afternoon.
The shooting remains under investigation, police said.
