
A man is accused of fatally shooting a woman Thursday night in Maple Heights, according to a news release from the police department.
MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio — A man is accused of fatally shooting a woman Thursday night in Maple Heights, according to a news release from the police department.
Darryl Thaxton, 39, of Bedford Heights, is charged with aggravated murder in the killing of Carolyn Williams, 66, of Bedford Heights, according to a news release from Maple Heights police.
The shooting happened shortly after 7:30 p.m. at a home on Broadway Avenue near Waterbury Avenue. Police received a call about a woman who was shot, authorities said.
Officers went to the home and found a woman, later identified as Williams, with a gunshot wound to the chest, police said. It’s unclear where she was found when officers arrived. She was taken to MetroHealth where she later died from her injuries.
Witnesses at the scene told police that Thaxton drove away after the shooting.
North Randall police officers found Williams at a gas station and took him into custody at 9:15 p.m. that night, police said.
Court records do not say when Thaxton will make his first court appearance.
