A 49-year-old man turned the tables on a 16-year-old robber Wednesday, wrestling a gun away from the teen and then helping ensure he couldn’t escape until police arrived.
The robbery attempt occurred at about 9:20 p.m. on the 1000 block of Roslyn Avenue, police say. The victim tells police he was sitting his vehicle when the teen approached, pulled out a handgun and demanded money.
Instead of handing over his money, the man attempted to take the gun away from the teen. The victim managed to get the gun, but not before a shot was fired, with the bullet hitting a nearby house. No one in the home was injured, police say.
After getting the gun, the victim and other residents held the teen on the ground until officers arrived, police say. Officers did recover a weapon at the scene.
The teen has been charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated menacing, carrying a concealed weapon, assault, and discharging firearms.
