PARMA, Ohio — A car trying to escape from Parma officers ended up crashing into two vehicles and then catching fire in Cleveland, with three people inside the car able to get out safely, police say.
Now the accused driver, Paul Curry, 32, of Cleveland, is being held in the Cuyahoga County Jail on a $20,000 bond on a charge of failure to comply with order or signal of a police officer. Police did not say if the two other males in the car will face charges.
According to Parma police, officers tried to pull over a Buick Enclave for an equipment violation at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday on State Road near Tuxedo Avenue. Curry is accused of speeding away from police, driving left-of-center and eventually heading east on Interstate 480.
Police continued to chase the Buick into Cleveland, where the car reportedly crashed into two other vehicles at the intersection of East 55th Street and Chester Avenue and caught fire. The three occupants in the vehicle were either treated and released or refused medical treatment. Details on other injuries were not available.
Police reportedly found a loaded 9mm handgun in the car. Curry likely will face additional charges, according to police.
